What is Le Med Nasal Splint?
Le Med Nasal Splint is a simple device used to enhance the cosmetic result of injectable as well as surgical rhinoplasty.
It comes in four sizes (petite, small, medium, large) and can help minimise and prevent many complications such as swelling, oedema, haemorrhage, implant displacement, filler migration, malposition, step and open roof deformity.
Le Med Nasal Splint is a patented product designed by Dr Andrew Le and boasts significant advantages over all other nasal splints currently available. It is produced by an Australian owned and operated company formed to develop and commercialise medical devices, especially those for the Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery markets.
Benefits
Ergonomic
It follows anatomical contour of nasal bone, facial bone and the orbit which in turn will provide maximum comfort. The edges of the device are rounded to give additional comfort and avoid demarcation on patients’ skin.
The gentle compression force constantly applied to the patients’ noses will speed up the healing process, with less bruising, less swelling, less post-op pain.
The unique traction force will enhance result and reduce complications.
Comfortable
Detailed shape with added adhesive inner surface will hold the splint in the right place effortlessly and comfortably, in contrary to the usual bulky and unsightly external taping of conventional splints.
Enhanced compliance due to its inconspicuous appearance; comfort to wear; reducing postoperative pain and complications
Discrete
With no external taping and transparent material, the device is practically invisible.
Effective
Improved medical results – It will help to mould the “new” nose in the desired shape. It will help to keep the implants – injectable or solid, bone and cartilage in the right place without the fear of accidental displacement.
Almost Invisibile
The clear finish allows the medical practitioner visual access to the nose.
Most importantly, it allows direct vision for the surgeon to monitor swelling, bleeding, bruising, infection, inflammation, skin demarcation, skin ulceration, skin necrosis from day one so action can be taken swiftly to avoid any long term complications.
FAQs
How to remove the splint if it is adhered tightly to the skin?
Wash the face in warm water for 2 to 3 minutes. The splint will come off easily.
How long should the splint be left in place?
It can be left in place as long as it is required.
Can a patient shower with it on? Or if not, is it OK to remove it and replace it?
Since it is waterproof, patients can shower with it on, it is also OK to remove and reapply it.
What can be done if it is interfering with the patients breathing?
The splint can be forced open a few times to reduce the compression force. This will help to improve breathing. Moving the splint upward to release nostril compression also help. Or simply choose one size larger eg. from Small to Medium will open up the nasal airway more.
Should we adjust the wings?
Yes, you can adjust the wings for a perfect fit according to the shape of the orbit. The wing can be adjusted by bending it up or down at the groove.
Can it correct a broken nose?
Yes, the splint will help the broken nasal bone to heal in an ideal alignment and optimal aesthetic result.
Can it reshape normal noses?
Yes, wearing it long enough it can help to mould the nose in a more desired shape due to it’s unique compression and traction force. In a way it is not much different from wearing braces to straighten your teeth.
Can it be used with filler?
Yes, it can be used with dermal filler to enhance the result of non-surgical rhinoplasty. It also helps to prevent and correct filler malposition and/or displacement of injected filler.
Can it be moulded?
Yes, but you don’t have to mould it yourself. The compression force will mould it gently and constantly for you.
Can it reduce swelling and bleeding?
Due to it’s compression force, the swelling and bleeding will be a lot less or doesn’t happen at all.
It also reduces post-operative pain for this reason.
Will it need to be replaced when the swelling subsides?
Le Med Nasal Splint will continue to have a steady grip on the nose.
There is no need to replace it.
Case Studies
CASE STUDY NUMBER 1
- 55 year old female. No significant medical history.
- Aquamid injectable rhinoplasty 10 years ago. She was happy with the result.
- A few years later she wanted a higher bridge and underwent surgical rhinoplasty using costal cartilage. Aquamid was removed at the time. She wasn’t happy with the result due to puffiness.
- She underwent a second surgery with a different doctor but still wasn’t happy.
- A year later requested a 3rd operation to correct her puffy nose. Instead the nose was treated with Le Med nasal splint for two weeks.
After 2 weeks wearing the splints several hours a day.
The true results of her last rhinoplasty are now visible with the reduction in swelling.
The patient was unhappy NOT because of the surgeon’s lack of skill but because of the chronic swelling masking the result.
Le Med nasal splint is an ideal solution to correct this complication.
CASE STUDY NUMBER 2
The patient had S line surgery for her nose using her ear cartilage.
8 months later she still has some residual swelling near the tip.
She is happy with the result. However, after wearing the splint for a few days she became even happier with the result.
